Rizal Statue

Campbelltown does not boast many public statues but this amazing five metre tall statue of Jose Rizal in Rizal Park, Rosemeadow, Campbelltown ranks with the most impressive.

Rizal was a central figure in the Phillipino fight for independence but was executed for his troubles in 1896, two years before independence was achieved. Some people may question why  a monument to a Phillipino freedom fighter  was erected in Campbelltown but I see it as a tribute to the strength of local Phillipinos who organised it and their desire and determination to recognise and pay tribute to their national hero. Good luck to them.

It is a very imposing statue, despite the tight security fencing around it preventing direct access. My images were taken through the railings.
