Not much to look at but there’s a story attached!
2014-05-09 Mawson Park Bird Bath
This old and curious looking bird bath was donated to Mawson Park, back in 1979 from the Estate of Paddy Hunt, a local animal lover who was renowned for raiding garbage bins to find food for cats and dogs.
It was the subject of a recent search by a local historian, Marie Holmes. She couldn’t find it – sparking an all out search by the Council! It was eventually found in some overgrown Park shrubbery which had completely smothered it and has now been cut back!
As for poor Paddy Hunt, he met his end after being knocked down by a car in Queen Street, which runs past the Park.
